Busan Citizens Park History Museum to Operate “Mission Explorers: Discover Every Corner of Citizens Park”!

The Busan Citizens Park History Museum, affiliated with the Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum, announced that it will operate “Mission Explorers: Discover Every Corner of Citizens Park,” a program in which participants tour historical sites within Busan Citizens Park and solve related missions, on Saturdays and Sundays from May 17 to May 30.

The program was designed to provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the turbulent modern and contemporary history of both Korea and Busan while exploring the historical remains preserved within Busan Citizens Park.

This program focuses on preserved architectural heritage sites currently remaining within the park. Participants will have the opportunity to directly visit modern and contemporary historical sites in the park, including the Officers’ Club, Non-Commissioned Officers’ Quarters, Quonset huts, and the Beomjeon-dong village well.

Through the mission-based exploration, participants will learn about the historical background, significance, and present-day use of each site, allowing them to experience history firsthand.

In addition to guided explanations from instructors, mission cards will be provided to encourage children to actively participate and enjoy the program. As children explore the locations and complete missions, they will earn lucky cards to use later in a dice game.

Following the exploration, participants will also take part in a team competition using the “Time Travel Dice Game Along the Park Path.”

The program is open to all elementary school students free of charge. Each session is limited to eight elementary school participants and applications will close on a first-come, first-served basis. One adult guardian must accompany participants during the program.

Applications will be accepted from May 11 to May 28 through the Busan Citizens Park History Museum website at busan.go.kr/citizenpark.

Meanwhile, the Busan Citizens Park History Museum opened in 2014 alongside the development of Busan Citizens Park following the return of the former Camp Hialeah site, with the aim of promoting the site’s historical significance and symbolism. Special exhibitions are also being held in the circular exhibition hall formerly used as the Officers’ Club of Camp Hialeah.

Baek Sun-young, Director of the Temporary Capital Memorial Hall, stated, “This program is a newly redesigned version of the annual program previously operated by the Busan Citizens Park History Museum, enhanced with more engaging elements,” adding, “We hope it will provide an enjoyable opportunity for participants to experience the modern and contemporary history of Busan Citizens Park through mission exploration and dice games.”
