The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it has finalized the target sites for the "2026 Traditional Market Parking Environment Improvement Project"
to address the chronic shortage of parking spaces at traditional markets.

• ●The project consists of three main components:
  ▲ Public Parking Lot Construction: building or expanding parking lots for traditional markets
  ▲ Parking Lot Maintenance: renovating and repairing existing public parking lots
  ▲ Parking Subsidy Program: subsidizing the use of nearby public or private parking lots.

A total of nine locations have been selected for the 2026 project:

• ●Public Parking Lot Construction (3 sites):

• ○Construction of new lots at Dangam Alley Market and Suyeong Paldo Market

• ○Expansion of the parking lot at Mangmi Central Market

• ●Parking Lot Maintenance (3 sites):

• ○Jangnim Alley Market

• ○Busan Peace Market

• ○Myeongji Market

• ●Parking Subsidy Program (3 sites):

• ○Changseon Arcade

• ○Busan Nammun Market

• ●The city conducted a public call in January, followed by on-site evaluations and review by a selection committee.

• ●Final selection was made through consultation with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS).

• ●The total project cost is 9.51 billion KRW, allocated as follows:
  ▲ 9.17 billion KRW for public parking lot construction
  ▲ 140 million KRW for parking lot maintenance
  ▲ 200 million KRW for the parking subsidy program.

• ●Busan plans to submit the funding application to the MSS by the end of April
  and will begin full-scale implementation, including land acquisition for parking lots, starting in 2026.

In particular, at Dangam Alley Market in Busanjin-gu,
the new parking facility is expected to benefit nearby markets such as Dangam Market and Dangam New Market,
providing low-cost parking and boosting commercial activity across all three markets simultaneously.

• ●Previously, the lack of a dedicated public parking lot for Dangam Alley Market had caused significant inconvenience for visitors.

• ●Thus, the establishment of a new public parking lot holds major significance for improving market accessibility.

Meanwhile, the "Traditional Market Parking Environment Improvement Project" was previously initiated through public calls by the MSS.
However, since 2024, Busan has been conducting its own selection process to identify sites where improvements are most needed,
making the initiative even more meaningful.

• ●Compared to 2024, when the project supported 1 maintenance site and 5 subsidy sites with a total budget of 400 million KRW,
  the 2026 project significantly expands to 9 sites, including 3 new parking lot constructions, with a total budget of 9.51 billion KRW,
  aiming to further strengthen the competitiveness of traditional markets.
