Busan City Launches Public-Private Job Creation Program for the Homeless in Partnership with KORAIL and Lighthouse Support Center

On April 25, Busan Metropolitan City signed a three-party agreement with KORAIL Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters and the Busan Lighthouse Comprehensive Support Center to implement a collaborative job creation program for the homeless.

This initiative aims to provide employment opportunities and establish self-reliance support systems by connecting welfare and employment through a public-private partnership.

❍ Key Details of the Agreement

• ●Busan Metropolitan City will provide administrative support.

• ●KORAIL Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters will fund the project with KRW 71 million.

• ●Busan Lighthouse Support Center will select and manage participants.

Starting in May, selected participants will be employed for three hours a day at Busan Station and Gupo Station, where they will:

• ●Perform environmental cleanup activities

• ●Guide and assist fellow homeless individuals
  They will receive a monthly wage of KRW 900,000.

Participants will also benefit from housing assistance, cultural and rehabilitation programs, and employment counseling, helping them reintegrate into society as active community members.

Since 2018, KORAIL Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters has continuously supported job creation projects for the homeless by providing annual funding.

Jung Tae-ki, Director-General of the Busan Welfare Bureau, stated:

“This job creation project is a meaningful initiative that can transform the lives of the homeless.
Busan City will continue to actively support the self-reliance and recovery of vulnerable groups by promoting integrated policies that connect welfare with employment.”
