The Busan Metropolitan City to Host the 2025 Public Design Contest

The Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will host the 2025 Busan Public Design Contest from June 20 to 24, under the theme “Exploring the Rebooting of Busan’s Public Design.”

Now in its 17th year since its launch in 2009, the contest aims to promote public interest and engagement in public design and to gather creative ideas and future-oriented visions for making Busan a city where citizens are at the heart of dignified public spaces.

The contest calls for proposals focused on public spaces and public facilities throughout the city, with the goal of redesigning existing installations.

Entries should propose:

• ●Connected designs that communicate with surrounding sites

• ●Universal designs that ensure safety and accessibility for all users

• ●Visual presentations comparing before-and-after redesigns of actual public spaces or facilities in Busan

Anyone with an interest in public design is welcome to participate. Contestants must submit both an application and their design entry between 9:00 AM on June 20 and 6:00 PM on June 24, either through:

Final selections will be made through a professional judging process. The contest will recognize winners in two categories:

• 1.General Division (for university students, graduate students, and general citizens)

• 2.Student Division (for middle and high school students or youths aged 13–18)

• ●Aesthetic value

• ●Symbolism

Awards:

General Division

• ●Grand Prize (1 winner): KRW 5,000,000

• ●Gold Prize (1): KRW 3,000,000

• ●Silver Prize (2): KRW 1,000,000 each

• ●Bronze Prize (3): KRW 800,000 each

Student Division

• ●Top Prize (1): Gift certificate worth KRW 500,000

• ●Excellence Prize (2): Gift certificates worth KRW 300,000 each

• ●Encouragement Prize (5): Certificates and awards

Total awards amount to approximately KRW 13.5 million in prizes and certificates.
