Busan to Launch a Public Call for Citizens’ Suggestions for the 2025 “Busan Future Heritage” Selection

The City of Busan (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will be accepting public submissions for the 2025 Busan Future Heritage candidates from April 16 to April 30.

Overview of the Call for Proposals

• ●Period: April 16 (Wed) – April 30 (Wed), 2025

• ●Eligibility: Tangible or intangible assets widely experienced or remembered by Busan citizens, and considered valuable to pass on to future generations
  ※ Limited to modern and contemporary eras. Excludes previously selected Busan Future Heritage items and designated national heritage properties (including national, city/provincial-level heritage and municipally designated modern buildings)

  Download the application form from the Busan Future Heritage website (https://www.busan.go.kr/futureheritage) → go to “Citizen Participation > Citizen Suggestions for Future Heritage”
  Then, submit via email (reehye@pusan.ac.kr) or online QR form

• ●Selection Criteria:
  Heritage items of significant value to Busan and suitable for inclusion in Busan Future Heritage will be selected as "Outstanding Proposals"
  ※ This is a preliminary call for candidate selection. Final designation will be made through review by the Busan Future Heritage Preservation Committee.

• ●Announcement of Results: May 7 (Tue), 2025 (individual notification)

• ●Benefits: Outstanding proposals will be posted on the Busan Future Heritage website, and selected applicants will receive mobile gift certificates (up to 50 recipients)

The call for proposals is open to anyone interested in Busan Future Heritage. Eligible items are those tangible or intangible in nature that are commonly experienced or remembered by Busan citizens and hold value for future generations. However, only those from the modern and contemporary periods are considered, excluding already selected Busan Future Heritage items and designated national heritage properties or modern buildings.

Applications must be submitted during the proposal period (April 16–30) via email (reehye@pusan.ac.kr) or by completing the online form via QR code.

Final results will be announced on May 7. For further details, please refer to the "Future Heritage News" section of the Busan Future Heritage website (www.busan.go.kr/futureheritage/future03) or contact the Heritage Utilization and Registration Team at the Cultural Heritage Division of the Busan Metropolitan City (☎ 051-888-5094, 510-7427).

If selected as an “Outstanding Proposal,” the heritage item will be posted on the Busan Future Heritage website and the applicant will receive a mobile gift certificate (up to 50 individuals). Selected citizen proposals, along with recommendations from experts, will be included in the deliberation materials for preliminary candidate evaluation.

Preliminary candidates will undergo basic research and study, after which their final designation as Busan Future Heritage will be determined through the final review by the Busan Future Heritage Preservation Committee around November.

Meanwhile, 95 items have been designated as Busan Future Heritage since 2019, and these can be found on the Busan Future Heritage website.

Jo Yoo-jang, Director of the Culture Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated,
“Citizen participation is most important at the candidate recommendation stage. We encourage all citizens to take an interest and join the effort. Busan Future Heritage refers to the legacy of the city that citizens remember, share, and deem worthy of passing on to future generations. Its significance lies in citizens voluntarily preserving, managing, and utilizing these heritage items.”
