Busan City Launches 2025 “Busan Future Heritage” Citizen Proposal Contest

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the 2025 Busan Future Heritage Citizen Proposal Contest from April 16 to April 30, inviting citizens to recommend items to be considered for the 2025 Busan Future Heritage list.

[Contest Overview]

• ●Period: April 16 (Wed) – April 30 (Wed), 2025

• ●Eligibility: Tangible or intangible heritage that
  ▲ has been experienced or remembered by many citizens of Busan
  ▲ holds value for future generations
  ※ Limited to modern and contemporary era; excludes previously selected Busan Future Heritage items and nationally/provincially designated heritage assets, including city-designated modern architecture

• ●How to Apply:

• 1.Visit the official Busan Future Heritage website (https://www.busan.go.kr/futureheritage)

• 2.Go to "Citizen Participation > Recommend Future Heritage"

• 3.Download the application form and submit via email (reehye@pusan.ac.kr) or by using the QR code linked to the online submission form

• ●Review & Selection: Entries that are deemed representative of Busan and suitable as future heritage will be selected as “Outstanding Proposals”
  ※ This contest aims to gather candidates for review by the Busan Future Heritage Preservation Committee, which will finalize the 2025 selections

• ●Announcement of Results: May 7, 2025 (Tue), individual notifications

• ●Benefits:

• 1.Outstanding proposals will be published on the Future Heritage website

• 2.Up to 50 participants will receive a mobile gift card

The contest welcomes participation from anyone interested in Busan’s future heritage. The final list of outstanding citizen proposals, along with expert recommendations, will be reviewed to determine preliminary candidates for the 2025 Busan Future Heritage designation.

Preliminary candidates will undergo further basic surveys and expert studies, with final selections to be made in November 2025 through a deliberation by the Busan Future Heritage Preservation Committee.

Currently, 95 items have been designated as part of Busan’s Future Heritage since the program began in 2019. The full list can be viewed on the Future Heritage website.

Cho Yoo-jang, Director General of Busan’s Culture Bureau, emphasized:
“Public participation is crucial from the nomination stage, and we encourage all citizens to take interest and get involved.
Busan Future Heritage is a shared cultural memory—heritage remembered and preserved by citizens for future generations—and the program aims to inspire voluntary preservation, management, and utilization led by the people themselves.”
