Busan City Expands 'Good Price Shops' Amid Soaring Prices — 774 Locations Designated for First Half of 2025

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) has announced that 774 businesses have been designated as “Good Price Shops” for the first half of 2025, exceeding the annual target of 750.

A “Good Price Shop” refers to a small service business that offers quality services at lower prices than others in the area. The designation system was introduced in 2011 by the central and local governments to help stabilize prices for personal services.

This year, 103 new shops were designated in March alone during the citywide inspection and promotion period, leading to an increase of 113 shops compared to the same period last year (661 shops).

Among the 774 designated businesses:

• ●618 (79.9%) are in the food service industry, including Korean, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine.

• ●156 (20.1%) are other personal service businesses, such as beauty salons, barbershops, and public baths.

Breakdown by category:

• ●Korean restaurants: 500 locations (64.6%)

• ●Beauty salons: 79 locations (10.2%)

• ●Chinese restaurants: 51 locations (6.6%)

• ●Other services include photo studios, bowling alleys, automotive repair shops, and more — making it convenient for citizens to use these services in everyday life.

Examples of newly designated shops:

• ●(Yeongdo-gu) Vietnamese rice noodles with pork and vegetables for KRW 7,500, served in a clean facility with domestic ingredients — designated also as a safe restaurant.

• ●(Dongnae-gu) Baby photo shoot package (4 themes + 4 framed prints) for KRW 140,000, includes free maternity and infant sessions.

• ●(Haeundae-gu) Local dish set (Busan-style dumpling soup + handmade soba) for KRW 7,000 using regional ingredients like Gijang kelp; prices frozen for three years and proceeds donated to local welfare centers.

• ●(Suyeong-gu) Gimbap (박고지김밥) for KRW 3,000 — a well-known local shop supporting low-income seniors with free meals.

To further promote participation, the city plans to:

• ●Increase support funding for participating businesses

• ●Collaborate with financial institutions for credit card discounts

• ●Coordinate with the central government to launch consumer campaigns and events
