Busan City Launches 2025 ESG Capacity-Building Support Program for Local Enterprises

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon), in partnership with the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Yang Jae-saeng), announced the launch of the 2025 ESG Capacity-Building Support Program, inviting applications from participating companies starting April 14 through April 30.

This initiative aims to provide customized ESG consulting and diagnostic services to companies that have not yet fully adopted ESG practices, helping them adapt to the global trend where ESG is becoming a core element of business operations.

Originally launched in 2023, this project is jointly operated by Busan City, the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency.

■ Project Overview for 2025

The 2025 program is divided into two main models:

• 1.Win-Win Partnership Project for Prime and Partner Enterprises

• ○A total of 20 companies will be selected, including 5 prime contractors and 15 partner companies.

• ○Each prime company must participate with at least three partner companies.

• ○Support includes:

• ■Prime enterprises: Consulting and assistance in preparing sustainability reports and implementing ESG management (up to KRW 40 million per company, with 80% government funding).

• ■Partner SMEs: In-depth ESG diagnostic support from the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (up to KRW 16 million per company; VAT borne by the enterprise).

• 2.ESG Expansion Support Project for SMEs

• ○25 SMEs will be selected for ESG onboarding support.

• ○Services include initial diagnostics, ESG indicator development, evaluations, site inspections, and final diagnostic reporting.

These programs are especially beneficial for small and medium enterprises that may lack the financial resources to adopt ESG practices, and they help ensure long-term business sustainability, competitiveness in export markets, and resilience against regulatory requirements.
