Busan City Recruits Participants for “Busan Foreign Resident Connector” — A Hands-On Engagement Program for Foreign Residents

The City of Busan (Mayor Park Heong-joon) and the Busan Global City Foundation (CEO Jeon Yong-woo) have announced the recruitment of participants for the 1st Busan Foreign Resident Connector Program, aiming to gather meaningful input from foreign residents and foster deeper engagement with the local community.

The “Busan Foreign Resident Connector” program allows foreign residents living in Busan to share everyday challenges, propose policy improvements, and actively contribute to making the city more livable by participating in district-level activities. This is a hands-on participation initiative where foreign residents can act as co-creators of a better urban environment.

This newly launched program represents a complete reorganization of the previous Busan Foreign Resident Representative Council (1st–3rd terms), shifting away from passive meetings and consultations. The new format empowers foreign residents to actively participate in their communities and propose localized, practical policy suggestions.

Those selected as Connectors will:

• ●Create tailored digital content by district, introducing local hotspots, useful lifestyle tips, and recommended eateries

• ●Participate in community-linked activities

• ●Attend capacity-building workshops

All activities will be compiled and published as lifestyle and tourism content by district, focusing on foreign residents’ perspectives.

Participants will receive:

• ●Stipends for activities

• ●Official volunteer hours

• ●Performance-based rewards
  Additionally, their contributions will be showcased on the foreign resident communication platform, “Life in Busan”.

The program is designed to diagnose Busan’s living environment from the perspective of foreign residents and contribute to social integration through dialogue and policy suggestions. It is expected to promote inclusivity and sustainability as part of Busan’s vision as a global city.

Eligibility:

• ●Foreign residents who are 18 years or older

• ●Must have lived in Korea for at least one year, or in Busan for more than 90 days

Applications can be submitted online via the Busan Global City Foundation website (www.bgcf.or.kr) by April 23, 2025.
