Busan Hosts the 53rd Health Day Commemorative Ceremony

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the 53rd Health Day Commemorative Ceremony on April 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the International Conference Hall of Busan City Hall, in celebration of World Health Day (April 7).

World Health Day commemorates the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 7, 1948. In Korea, this date has been designated as “Health Day” since 1973 and was formally established as a statutory observance under the National Health Promotion Act in 2014.

This year’s event celebrates the 30th anniversary of the National Health Promotion Act with the theme:
“30 Years of Health Achievements, a Leap Toward a Healthier Future.”
The ceremony will recognize individuals who have contributed to the improvement of public health and the development of the healthcare sector in Busan.

The program includes an awards ceremony, commemorative speeches, and a celebratory performance by the Busan Metropolitan Chorus. Attendees include Mayor Park, the President of the Busan Hospital Association, public officials, healthcare professionals, and citizens.

A total of 38 commendations will be awarded by the Mayor of Busan to individuals recognized for their outstanding contributions—27 from the private healthcare sector and 11 public officials—all of whom have played a vital role in enhancing the city’s health and medical services.

Mayor Park is expected to convey the following message of appreciation:

“I extend my deepest gratitude and respect to our healthcare professionals who have faithfully fulfilled their responsibilities on the frontlines, guided by love and dedication to the people of Busan.
I ask for your continued support and cooperation as we work together toward a livable ‘15-Minute Health City’—a city where everyone would choose to live again.”

The City of Busan is actively implementing its 15-Minute City policy, making healthcare more accessible to residents through initiatives such as HAHA Community Health Centers, Health Promotion Support Centers, and Mobile Medical Buses.

In addition, Busan is strengthening its public healthcare infrastructure by expanding essential medical facilities, reinforcing medical service delivery and infectious disease response systems, and pursuing public hospital projects including the Busan Children’s Hospital, the West Busan Medical Center, and the transformation of Baptist Hospital into a public hospital.
