□ On January 26, 2026, Busan Metropolitan City launched a late-night smart transit operation along the Bus Rapid Transit route serving Naeseong Intersection and Jungdong.
○ The pilot is in effect from January 26 to June 30 on weekdays, from 11:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. the following day—except for the first Friday of the month.
○ The route covers 10.4 kilometers between Dongnae Station · Naeseong Intersection and Haeundae-gu Office Three-Way Intersection. Four one-way trips, roughly an hour each, are available daily (two round trips), with departures every 60 minutes from the starting point (a 120-minute interval in the same bound).
○ Fares are waived during this period. Once regular service is introduced, fares will align with city bus rates.
□ As a protective measure, standing is not permitted. A maximum of 15 passengers may be accommodated, all required to wear seatbelts. An onboard supervisor handles any unforeseen situations.
○ A risk management protocol tailored to after-hours runs monitors the process end-to-end.
□ Busan will continuously analyze service records to enhance the ride experience and consider additional hours and routes in the future.
□ From November 3, 2025, to January 23, 2026, a preliminary demonstration verified the stability and integrity of the Naeseong–Jungdong BRT line.
○ Following positive feedback from six months of daytime self-driving shuttles in Osiria, the city decided to extend deployment to an overnight schedule as well as the Naeseong–Jungdong BRT link.
□ Throughout the initial testing phase, Busan focused on unmanned maneuvering assurance, AI learning, data accumulation, and mobility-infrastructure integration in real-traffic environments.
○ Core technologies, such as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication*, precision map-based navigation, and secure operations on exclusive BRT lanes, were validated. Emergency response capability and overall system reliability were also assessed.
* A wireless technology that enables driverless vehicles to exchange live information with roads, signals, pedestrians, and other vehicles to facilitate crossing safety, accident prevention, and smooth travel.
○ The proven robustness of performance on exclusive BRT lanes provides a cornerstone for scaling automated mass transport citywide.
