□ On August 11, 2025, Busan Metropolitan City signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the international mobility platform Uber Taxi to enhance transportation convenience for foreign guests participating in Festival Shiwol.
○ The agreement seeks to address challenges that inbound travelers often face when using domestic taxi-hailing services, which typically require local mobile carrier authentication and payment methods linked to Korean credit cards or bank accounts.
○ By leveraging the global Uber app, visitors will be able to request rides in Busan quickly and seamlessly.
○ The signing ceremony took place at Busan City Hall, with the Director-General of the Tourism & MICE Bureau and Song Jin-woo, General Manager of Uber Taxi Korea, present.
□ Busan and Uber Taxi will work together to raise awareness of Festival Shiwol—a large-scale, citywide event centered around Haeundae and Busan’s North Port, running from September 21 to October 3—and provide safe and reliable transportation options for attendees.
○ Partnership efforts will comprise: ▲ promoting Festival Shiwol to overseas audiences via the Uber app; ▲ offering Uber Taxi coupons to festival ticket holders*; and ▲ elevating the overall travel experience.
* 3,000 coupons, each valued at 5,000 won, will be distributed.
□ Uber Taxi enables riders to arrange pickups anywhere in the world with the same Uber app they already have in their home country, without the need to download additional apps.
○ Its built-in translation feature supports clear communication between drivers and passengers, removing language barriers.
○ This initiative is expected to make taxi access simpler and smoother for festivalgoers.
