□ Classic Busan has unveiled the ticketing schedule for the Busan Concert Hall Opening Festival, an eight-day celebration from June 21 to 28, 2025.
○ A ceremonial prelude is slated for June 20, setting the stage for the festivities.
□ As the city's first purpose-built venue for classical music, Busan Concert Hall will make its grand debut on June 21. The inaugural performances will be led by Art Director Chung Myung-whun, partnering with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) and a stellar roster of world-class musicians.
○ The APO is a distinguished festival ensemble composed of elite Asian instrumentalists, who serve as principals in the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Staatskapelle Berlin, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
□ Opening Day on the 21st will present Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and Symphony No. 9 ‘Choral,’ with Chung at the helm of the APO.
○ The Triple Concerto will spotlight violinist Sayaka Shoji, cellist Jian Wang, and Chung, in his dual role as pianist and conductor. The Choral Symphony will unite soprano Hwang Sumi, some of Korea’s finest vocalists, the 2025 Classic Busan Season Choir, and the Changwon City Chorale.
□ On the 22nd, Cho Seong-Jin will interpret Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 ‘Emperor’ alongside the APO, again under Chung’s baton. Cho Jae-Hyuck will demonstrate the power and nuance of the hall’s pipe organ in Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3 ‘Organ.’
○ Initially intended as solo recitals, these appearances have been re-envisioned as full orchestral collaborations with the APO under Chung’s artistic direction.
□ On the evening of the 23rd, Yekwon Sunwoo and APO members will showcase a more intimate chamber music experience highlighting piano trios by Beethoven and Brahms. On the 25th, Chung will return—not on the podium, but at the piano.
□ The festival will culminate with two stagings of Fidelio, Beethoven’s only opera, on the 27th and 28th, conducted by Chung and performed by the APO, the Busan Metropolitan Chorus, and the National Chorus of Korea.
□ Reservations will commence as follows, ▲ Early access for paid members: May 7 at 14:00 through https://classicbusan.busan.go.kr/ and ▲ General admission: May 8 at 16:00 via the same site and external vendors (Interpark, Ticketlink, YES24).
