□ The Busan Museum of Art has announced the launch of Loop Lab Busan, a digital media festival set to unfold across 26 cultural institutions and public spaces throughout the city.
○ As the first event in Asia, Loop Lab Busan will serve as a global digital media art platform that delves into time and images while emphasizing horizontal solidarity within communities.
○ Inspired by Loop Barcelona, Spain, Loop Lab Busan comprises ▲ Digital Subculture, ▲ Moving on Asia, ▲ BMA Future Museum Forum, ▲ Loop Lab Busan Art Fair, and ▲ collaborative exhibits with partners. The opening ceremony is slated for April 24, 2025, at 18:00 at the museum’s outdoor sculpture park, with approximately 500 attendees, including Mayor Park Heong-joon, participating artists, representatives from overseas galleries and sponsors, and key cultural figures.
□ The exhibition ‘Digital Subculture’ will continue through June 29 at the museum’s outdoor sculpture park and affiliated locations—Gimhae International Airport, exploring how digital technology has dismantled traditional boundaries between reality and virtuality, contemporary art and pop culture, and creation and consumption.
○ At the Digital Subculture event, 45 digital creators from 28 countries reflect the creative flows driven by a generation of digital natives, as well as the increasingly blurred line between creators and consumers.
○ The exhibition features pieces not only by contemporary artists, but also digital creators with online followings ranging from 100,000 to over 1,000,000. Rather than being displayed in conventional settings, the artwork will be presented on LED screens installed in the outdoor sculpture park, introducing innovative forms of media art.
○ It also raises questions that go beyond mere technical applications, addressing shifts in aesthetic sensibilities in the digital era and reconsidering the evolving public role of art.
□ Meanwhile, 26 institutions in Busan will take part in this horizontal solidarity initiative via digital media art, including ▲ Domoheon, ▲ Busan Cinema Center, ▲ Busan Museum, ▲ Busan Cultural Center, ▲ Carin Gallery (Wael Shawky, Moon Kyungwon, Jeon Joonho), ▲ F1963 (Tony Oursler), ▲ Haeundae Platform (Aldo Tambellini), and ▲ Kukje Gallery (Jeong Yeondoo).
□ Loop Lab Busan Art Fair, organized by A-Fluction, is scheduled until April 26 at Grand Josun Busan.
○ It brings together 25 prestigious Korean and foreign galleries that previously joined Loop Barcelona, such as ▲ Esther Schipper, Germany, ▲ Galerie Balice Hertling, France, and ▲ Duarte Sequeira, Portugal.
