The City of Busan Selected as Host City for the 2024 World Table Tennis Championships

Busan has been selected as the host city for the 2024 World Table Tennis Championships. Busan was selected at the 2021 ITTF Annual General Meeting which took place on Wednesday November 24th in Houston, USA.


Five candidate cities from Sweden, Korea Republic, Portugal, Argentina and India were vying to host the tournament.


Busan Metropolitan City, the Korea Table Tennis Association and the Busan Table Tennis Association took part in joint promotional activities to attract the tournament to Busan.


As the result of ITTF member voting was finalized, Busan was selected as host city for the 2024 World Table Tennis Championships.


The World Table Tennis Championships is a sporting event with participation from about 2,000 athletes and related staff from around 100 countries, a similar number to that of the World Cup. Five individual events, which include men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's double and mixed doubles, are currently held in odd numbered years. The World Team Table Tennis Championships, which include men's team and women's team events, were first held in 2000. The team championships are held in even numbered years.


Busan was originally set to host the 2020 event before it was cancelled due to COVID-19.


The ITTF 2024 World Team Table Tennis Championships Busan will take place from May 24 to June 2, 2024 at BEXCO, Busan with participation from 2,000 athletes from 100 countries.
