The City of Busan has announced that local bus passengers are required to wear face masks starting May 21, 2020. After the guidance period from May 21 to May 26, the rule will officially begin on May 27, 2020.

To increase voluntary participation of the “social distancing in daily life” campaign, the city has given bus drivers permission to refuse passengers without face masks and also requires passengers to continue wearing face masks while on board city buses.

This is an advanced preventative measure to get ready for more crowded buses as the phased reopening of schools begins and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, even though most of passengers already are wearing face masks while using public transportation.

We ask people for their understanding and cooperation as we all work together during this challenging time to maintain a healthy environment aboard our buses.

As the summer season is coming soon, the city plans to clean air conditioners and upgrade air cleaning filters on all local buses in Busan.

Busan-based bus companies have been making their own efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by cleaning and disinfecting their buses every day, requiring bus drivers to wear face masks, opening windows for ventilation when air conditioners are on and offering hand sanitizer to bus passengers.
