Gamcheon Port has been located near a village where ships entering the port have been getting valuable water from old times, and it was a strategic military hub as it was geographically close to Busanpo and was a gateway to Dadaepo. It was a historical place where the Japanese military was stationed during the Japanese colonial period and the British Army and the National Defense Guard (predecessor of the ROK Army) were stationed during the Korean War. If trekkers go around the pine forest Dusongbando Peninsula, Dadaepo, a repository of the coastal features, is welcomed by Nakdonggang River and the South Sea.
