History

  • A Cultural Space for the People
    Welcome to DOMOHEON —
a place reimagined with you in mind.

  • Built in 1984, DOMOHEON began as a presidential retreat and later served as the official residence of the mayor of Busan.
At the time, with no tall buildings nearby, the site offered sweeping views of Gwangalli Beach and was affectionately known as the Local Blue House.

  • Until 1993, it alternated between housing presidents and hosting mayoral functions.
Then, in step with the civilian government’s push for openness, it welcomed the public as the Busan Folklore Hall from 1993 to 1996.
In 1998, the space returned to its role as the mayoral residence and a venue for civic events. By 2004, its grounds were partially opened to the public as the Open Event Hall, with its gardens transformed into a public park.

  • Fast-forward to 2024 —
forty years after its original construction —
it began a new chapter as DOMOHEON.

  • Inspired by Sanbo (散步) — a gentle, meditative walk — each space at DOMOHEON invites you to stroll through stillness, linger awhile, and reflect in your own time.
Here, you can slow down, wander, look back and look forward, and gently listen to the rhythm of your own thoughts.
Stroll through the Sosopung Garden, where every step feels like a gentle picnic; pause by the ecological pond, alive with diverse flora and fauna; rest in the Sosopung Lounge, where the breeze seems to whisper tranquility. These spaces are designed to nurture peace, presence, and inspiration in everyday life.
DOMOHEON also offers flexible spaces for meetings, talks, and workshops — to nurture civic culture, encourage community engagement, and empower young artists.

DOMOHEON is more than a space — it’s a quiet companion for your everyday life, a place to reflect, to dream, and to shape Busan’s future together.
