Co-hosted with Nam June Paik Art Center, Nam June Paik Special Exhibition is a large-scale retrospective that illuminates the artistic explorations of Nam June Paik, the first ever video artist and globally renowned pioneer through a comprehensive exhibition of his oeuvre. The exhibition presents his key productions in a reverse chronological order, from his laser pieces in the 2000s to video installations from the 1980s and 1990s, robots, videos from the 1960s and 1970s and television work, and other pieces from his first solo exhibition in 1963 and Fluxus productions. By revisiting ten key moments in Paik’s art world in the fashion of a cinematic flashback, the event attempts to approximate the avant-garde as the originary source of Paik’s aesthetics. We hope to contextualize Paik’s innovative artistic practices through technology and media, and invite all visitors to join in on party that Paik hosted for us all.
