#3. 아라마이아니 Arahmaiani
아라마이아니(1961- )는 공동체가 당면한 의제들을 다루면서도 민주적인 과정을 거쳐 개방형 예술 시스템을 만드는 것을 고민한다. 이를 위해 작가는 지역 사회 네트워크를 조직하며 토론을 중재하고 지역 공동체의 생각을 표현할 수 있도록 이끌어 준다.
〈깃발 프로젝트 – 글로벌 버전〉(2006- )은 2006년 시작된 커뮤니티 기반 공동 행동에 뿌리를 둔 협력 프로젝트이자 장소 특정적 퍼포먼스 작품으로 환경 문제에 대한 작가의 가장 큰 관심을 보여준다. 정치 사회적 갈등에서 환경 재난에 이르기까지 인도네시아 욕야카르타, 독일, 싱가포르, 일본, 티베트 등 다양한 지역 구성원들이 자신이 직면한 문제에 대한 관점, 희망, 우려를 표현하기 위해 이 프로젝트에 참여해 왔다. 깃발에는 자유, 사랑, 마음, 용기, 문화, 자본, 지구, 물, 공기, 음식, 저항, 지혜, 행복, 연대 등 다양한 공동체들이 추구하는 핵심 가치가 새겨져 있다.
〈과거의 그림자〉(2018)는 티베트에서 제작된 퍼포먼스 기록 영상 작품이다. 작가는 지난 2010년 티베트 고원 캄프 지역의 지진 피해로 인한 환경 문제를 해결하고자 불교 승려들 및 마을 사람들과 협력하며 약 10년 정도의 장기 지역 사회 프로젝트 진행했다. 그러나 퍼포먼스 영상에는 오로지 작가만이 등장하는데, 이는 당시 중국과 티베트의 정치적 분쟁과 갈등 상황 및 세계정세의 역동적인 상황과 많은 관련이 있다는 점에서 중요하다.
Arahmaiani (1961- ) contemplates the creation of an open art system through democratic processes, while also addressing issues facing communities. In order to do this, she organizes local social networks, mediates discussions, and plays a role in guiding local communities to express themselves.
Flag Project – Global Version (2006- ) is a collaborative project of site-specific performance art, rooted in community-based collective action, that began in 2006 and reflects the artist‘s significant interest in the environment. Members from various regions including Yogyakarta, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and Tibet, have participated in this project to express their thoughts, hopes, and concerns regarding the problems they face, from political and social conflicts to environmental disasters, embodied in texts written onto colorful flags. The flags are inscribed with the core values pursued by the diverse communities, including freedom, love, heart, courage, culture, capital, earth, water, air, food, resistance, wisdom, happiness, and bonding.
Shadow of the Past (2018) is a performance video work created on the Tibetan Plateau. Arahmaiani has been working on a long-term community project for approximately 10 years, collaborating with Buddhist monks and local villagers to address environmental issues in the Tibetan Plateau region in 2010. In this performance video, only the artist appears; significant in that it relates to the political conflicts and tensions between China and Tibet at that time, as well as the dynamic global situation.
