Busan swings for the fences with Sajik Stadium revamp An artist's rendering of the Sajik Stadium renovation proposal. The iconic venue is set for a total rebuild, with construction scheduled from 2028 to 2030.Sajik Stadium opened in 1985.For Busan citizens who love baseball, the new stadium will fulfill a long-awaited wish. Sajik Baseball Stadium, a beloved symbol of Busan's baseball culture, will be transformed into a modern sports complex and is expected to reopen in 2031. On July 3, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety approved the renovation project, confirming its feasibility and setting the plan in motion. Since opening in 1985, the stadium has served as a gathering place where fans share their passion for baseball and create lasting memories while rooting for the beloved Lotte Giants. However, after 40 years, aging infrastructure has caused safety concerns for fans and players. With reconstruction now approved, Busan aims to build a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly stadium that goes far beyond simple refurbishment. A design competition will be held next year, with construction scheduled to take place from 2028 to 2030. During this time, the Busan Asiad Main Stadium will be remodeled as a temporary home for local games, ensuring fans can continue to watch the Giants without interruption. The upgraded complex will feature amenities comparable to those found in Major League Baseball venues in the United States, including displays of real-time game data analysis and augmented reality photo zones. Outdoor areas will utilize eco-friendly energy sources for lighting and digital media displays. The Busan mayor expressed his hopes for the project, saying, "The new Sajik Baseball Stadium will be more than just a sports venue; it will serve as a key driver of the local economy and become a future asset of Busan where sports, culture and industry intersect." He added, "We value communication with our citizens and will do our best to build a `sports paradise city' where people choose to call home."

"Enjoy studying abroad in Busan, a city full of vivid charm!" 2025 Busan Media Member and international student Sonoka. Busan has launched a new video series on its official YouTube channel, BusanTube, showcasing the city's distinctive charms through the eyes of international residents. Titled "If I Were Reborn, I Would Live in Busan Too," the series features people from various backgrounds as they share their personal experiences of living in Busan. The videos offer a glimpse into what life in Busan is like for non-Koreans. For this edition, we spoke with Japanese student Sonoka, a featured guest from the very first episode. She shares her journey of studying and living in Busan. Q. Please introduce yourself.A. My name is Sonoka, and I transferred to Pukyong National University from Kanagawa, Japan. I've always been naturally curious and eager to try new things. I believe it's that curiosity that has helped me grow and enjoy life here in Busan. Q. What inspired you to major in tourism management, and why did you choose to study in Busan?A. One practical reason is that the tuition here is more affordable than in Seoul. However, the biggest draw is the proximity of the campus to the ocean. Since I'm interested in working in the tourism industry and want to promote Busan as a travel destination, studying tourism management here felt like the perfect fit. Q. Some people believe the best parts of college happen outside the classroom. I've heard you're involved in many activities. Could you share any memorable experiences?A. I completely agree with that belief. I really value learning experiences through a variety of off-campus activities. I usually take part in tourism-related programs, and one of the most unforgettable moments was being selected as one of the 2025 Busan Media Members and filming for the city's official YouTube channel. I appeared in the first episode of the "If I Were Reborn, I Would Live in Busan Too" series, which is now available to view on BusanTube. It was such a meaningful opportunity to share my honest thoughts about Busan as an international student living here. Q. As a tourism management student, what do you consider Busan's strengths as a tourist destination?A. Busan's biggest strength is its coastal appeal. The city is rich with marine attractions, from famous beaches like Haeundae to fun experiences like yacht rides and cable cars. I think Busan has strong potential to become a hub for marine tourism. That said, there's still room to improve the experience for international visitors. Expanding multilingual services and signage would make a big difference.Q. How has studying abroad in Busan influenced your values or career goals? A. My time in Busan has shaped me both personally and professionally. Meeting people from different cultures and generations has helped me become more open-minded and broadened my world view. Alongside learning the theories of tourism management, I've also gained hands-on experiences that helped clarify my career path. In the future, I hope to contribute to the development of medical and wellness tourism in Busan, utilizing the city's natural and cultural assets. I want to become a professional who plans strategically and takes action to attract visitors who value health and well-being. Q. Do you have any advice for international students considering studying in Busan?A. If there's something you want to try, just go for it. It can be scary, but the experiences you gain will be valuable and help you grow. Enjoy studying abroad in Busan, a city full of vivid charm!Watch the first episode of the "If I Were Reborn, I Would Live in Busan Too" series : Click

Seaside serenity on the Blue Line Busan's YOLO Galmaetgil Trails are beloved hiking routes that showcase the city's natural resources and cultural offerings. YOLO has two sources of inspiration. First, from "you only live once," the acronym that describes the mindset that life should be enjoyed; second, from the phrase "come here" as pronounced in the local dialect. Taken together, YOLO invites visitors to experience the joie de vivre locals have: Come to Busan and enjoy life.A retro train, lush forest and ocean views can be found on YOLO Galmaetgil Route 3.Songjeong Beach is the birthplace of Korea's surf culture.A wooden deck runs along Busan돴s eastern coast, side-by-side with trains from the Haeundae Blue Line.Haewol Observatory.Cheongsapo Daritdol Observatory.■ YOLO Route 3 For a refreshing seaside stroll with sweeping ocean views, YOLO Galmaetgil Route 3 offers one of Busan's most picturesque escapes. This scenic 5.8-kilometer route stretches from Songjeong Station to Mipo Station, hugging the city's eastern coastline. A 10-minute walk from Songjeong Station leads to Songjeong Beach. This sandy playground is a favorite year-round, but it buzzes in August with sunseekers and surfers alike. From the beach, trekkers follow a wooden deck that winds along the coast. With brilliant blue water on one side and lush greenery on the other, it's easy to appreciate this urban paradise. Midway through, take a breather at the Cheongsapo Daritdol or Haewol observatories. Their reinforced glass floors offer a heart-pounding view of the waves crashing below. With the sea swirling beneath your feet, either place offers a memorable spot to take a picture and rest before finishing the trail.YOLO Guide : Click

Life inside a painting Busan's YOLO Galmaetgil Trails are beloved hiking routes that showcase the city's natural resources and cultural offerings. YOLO has two sources of inspiration. Saha-Gu District Office■ YOLO Route 7 Every sunset paints a picture, but summer sunsets stir something deeper. The sun lingers, reluctant to hand the sky over to the moon. As the sun dips below the horizon, the sky transforms into a canvas of colors - an Impressionist masterpiece in motion. Summer is nature's showiest season, saturating the world in color and overwhelming the senses with dazzling skies. There is science behind this beauty; the warm, moisture-rich air scatters sunlight more dramatically, producing deeper, more vibrant hues. One of the best places to witness this evening spectacle is along YOLO Galmaetgil Route 7, on the western edge of Busan. The trail's riverside setting offers uninterrupted views of the sun sinking into the Nakdonggang River. Reflections shimmer on the water as the sky above shifts through a kaleidoscope of colors, making the entire walk feel like a living painting. The 7-kilometer path is smooth and well-maintained, with restrooms and rest stops along the way. It takes about an hour and 40 minutes to complete. The trail is ideal for a sunset stroll or a breezy bike ride. Highlights include Jangnim Port, where brightly painted buildings evoke the canals of Venice, earning it the nickname "Bunezia," a playful mash-up of "Busan" and "Venezia." Before reaching Dadaepo Beach, follow a short uphill path to Amisan Observatory. From this vantage point, the river, sea and sandbanks stretch out in a breathtaking panorama. Affectionately known as the "Sunset Picnic," YOLO Galmaetgil Route 7 captures the magic of summer in Busan. It's a reminder that the city offers more than vibrant markets and ocean views - it's also a place where the sky puts on a show.A Venice-like harborfront right here in Busan. The riverside path leading to Goninaru Rest Area. The incredible view from Amisan Observatory.YOLO Guide : https://www.busan.go.kr/galmaetgil_eng/trip0207Editor: Ji Minkyeom, Song SoomiCopy Editors: Anton J.
