Sunsets from Amisan Observatory are among the most breathtaking views in the country.

As 2023 draws to a close, now is a good time to reflect on its passage. Did you have a good year? What hardships did you face? What are the small victories you can celebrate? One place to pause, take a breath, and look back on 2023 is the Amisan Observatory.
Situated in Saha-gu district, just north of Dadaepo Beach, Amisan Observatory offers a panoramic vista of the Nakdonggang River Estuary, where the country's longest river empties into the Korea Strait. It is a spot cherished by locals for its stunning sunrises and serene sunsets.
The observatory, on the third floor, lures visitors with its wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling windows. The cafe on the same floor lets guests relax with a warm drink and take in the breathtaking scenery.
Tower viewers line the windows, enabling visitors to observe the estuary's dynamic landscape. The accumulation of sand and soil emerges like an island, intricately carved by the river's gentle waves and sculpted by the sea's unrelenting tides. Bearing witness to a constantly evolving landscape brings forth feelings that cannot be expressed in words.
When the blue hour arrives, the scenery dramatically changes. The sky and waves blend into hues of red, yellow, gold and blue. The silhouette of the sandbank and Gadeokdo Island against an orange sky creates a watercolor-like image not easily forgotten.
Another way to relish the landscape is by exploring Amisan Noeulmaru-gil, the trail that winds its way beneath the observatory. Walk down the wooden staircases to access more observation points. Here, the sunset stimulates all the senses. The gentle river breeze, the salty tang of the sea in the air and the melodic songs of migratory birds combine for a truly unique experience.
Whether you are going to witness a sunset to close out 2023 or a sunrise to welcome 2024, Amisan Observatory offers the perfect atmosphere for leaving the past and starting anew.
