The young leaders visited Busan and discussed a "sustainable future."

The inaugural U.S.-R.O.K.-Japan Trilateral Global Leadership Youth Summit was held at the Nurimaru APEC House from July 11 to 13. The Summit brought together 50 young leaders from Korea, Japan, the United States, Southeast Asia and Pacific Island nations to develop global leadership skills, learn about regional issues and successful regional cooperation and share perspectives on international issues that affect the trilateral partnership.

The emerging leaders, aged 18 to 30, were selected through public recruitment. Selected participants attended virtual workshops and expert lectures on trilateral security cooperation, economic and technological cooperation, Indo-Pacific strategies and cultural exchange.

The young leaders then traveled to Busan to represent their countries during the three-day conference. Participants discussed specific action plans on the most pressing global challenges today. The event provided a unique opportunity for members to hone their diplomatic skills.

Based on the event's success, Busan is planning other summits with leaders from sister cities like Fukuoka, Japan, and Los Angeles. Such experiences are integral to fostering the next generation of global leaders.
