According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Index 2024, Busan is ranked as the sixth most liveable city in Asia for the second consecutive year. EIU is the research and analysis division of The Economist Group, a leading source of international business and world affairs.
The Global Liveability Index assesses which locations worldwide provide the best or the worst living conditions. Cities are evaluated on over 30 factors across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
According to this year’s report, Busan secured an impressive overall score of 87. The score ranks Busan alongside Asian cities like Singapore and Hong Kong, which are known for their advanced infrastructure and high quality of life.
Regarding this achievement, Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon said, “The city will not spare its efforts to promote Busan’s allure and value on the global stage.”
Busan’s ranking in the Global Liveability Index 2024 is the latest step in the city’s rise in global esteem and reputation. Busan has rocketed up several prestigious international indices.
The city is ranked 27th among 121 cities in the latest Global Financial Centres Index and 14th among 79 cities in the Smart Centres Index. These reports are produced and released by Z/Yen, a global consulting firm headquartered in London, U.K. Furthermore, in Resonance Consultancy's 2024 World's Best Cities report, Busan was included for the first time, ranking 67th out of 270 cities globally. Busan was praised as the "Miami of Korea" in the report.
