Busan won the table tennis World Championships
The thrilling competition of the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals Busan 2024 Presented by BNK Busan Bank concluded on Feb. 25. The 10-day tournament brought breathtaking table tennis action to BEXCO in Haeundae-gu District.
China continued its unrivaled table tennis dominance as it retained both the men's and women's team championships.
Team Korea had an encouraging run, with the men's team winning their fourth consecutive bronze medal. Both the men's and women's teams also qualified to compete at this summer's Paris Olympics.
The competition was highly successful in various aspects, a testament to Busan's ability to host grand international events. Over 30,000 spectators visited BEXCO throughout the tournament, and gate revenue exceeded 1.1 billion won.
The local economy also came away with a big win. Sales at department stores near BEXCO saw a remarkable 600% increase compared to last year. In addition, nearby hotels boasted over 90% occupancy rates despite being in the offseason.
Finally, despite thousands of spectators, the tournament was safe, orderly and organized thanks to the work of over 900 volunteers.
