Doses of the Novavax XBB.1.5 vaccine are available for free at designated hospitals and health centers nationwide.

The Novavax vaccine is the only non-messenger RNA (mRNA) formulation against COVID-19 in the world. It was developed with the more traditional genetic recombination technology used in other vaccines, including influenza, hepatitis B and HPV.

Individuals 65 or over, those who may have experienced side effects from previous vaccines, or were advised not to take an mRNA vaccine should consider taking the Novavax vaccine.

Regardless of vaccination history, only one shot is required to be immune; booster shots are possible three months after the initial dose.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency began its updated COVID-19 vaccination for all age groups this month, including individuals aged 12 to 64 and high-risk groups.

Vaccines are administered at over 320 medical institutions citywide. Individuals can choose the newly approved Novavax vaccine or the previously approved mRNA vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer.

To book an appointment or find the closest participating medical institution, visit the government’s COVID-19 portal below. Depending on your local medical institution, same-day or walk-in vaccination is available.

Foreigners aged 18 and above who are in Korea for an extended sojourn period (90 days or longer) are eligible for free COVID-19 vaccination.
