Busan tourism stays winning

Busan’s tourism brand, “Play. Work. Live. Busan” won the Brand and Marketing award at the 2023 Korea Tourism Star Awards, the nation’s most prestigious recognition in the tourism sector. The annual awards gala is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. 


Since its inception in 2010, the awards have been given to “stars of Korean tourism” to boost tourism, highlight tourist attractions, and spur local governments to invest in tourism resources.


Korean Tourism Star Awards recognizes excellence in eight categories: Destination of the Year, Barrier-free Destination, Best New Attraction, Sustainable Tourism, Best Organization or Business, Best Brand and Marketing, Broadcast Media, and Contributor. Nominees for each award are based on citizens’ recommendations; each winner is selected by a panel of experts based on their contributions to developing Korea’s tourism industry.


The 2023 Brand and Marketing Award is Busan’s third award, after winning the Best New Attraction in 2022 with Blue Line Park and Green Railway. 


“Play. Work. Live. Busan” became the city’s tourism slogan in Sept. 2022. The slogan expresses Busan’s identity as a global maritime city with various charms. It has both the dynamism of a major metropolis and the tranquility of natural resources. It is a place where cutting-edge innovation, global finance, and rich culture lie next to sandy beaches, peaceful mountains, and calm rivers.


In short, Busan is a city where people want to play, work and live.


The city expects this win to increase the value of Busan as a tourist destination and boost local industry in the coming years. 


This award is the latest win in a very successful year for Busan’s tourism industry, which has won nine awards from domestic and international organizations such as Trip.com and the KTO.
