City to help senior citizens cope with cold weather
Busan City and the Busan Comprehensive Support Center for the Elderly Living Alone will provide winter gear for seniors living alone. The support program is aimed at 1,910 households of seniors aged 75 or older or those at high risk of illness.
A citywide survey of 30,438 senior citizens revealed that the most in-demand winter items are winter blankets, thermal underwear and electric heating pads. In response, the city will provide the items to help vulnerable citizens endure brutally cold temperatures: 858 people will receive blankets, 717 will get thermal underwear, and 355 individuals will receive electric heating pads.
Additionally, government workers will check on the welfare of the elderly and provide guidance on staying safe and healthy throughout the winter season.
