New rules in effect on city buses

 The Busan City government revised the ordinance on bus maintenance and safety. The new regulations, which took effect on Oct. 6, aim to create a more comfortable experience for an evolving ridership.
 Busan is Good introduces the revised regulations that all bus passengers must follow. Those who fail to comply may be denied passage.

■ Personal items
 Baggage carried by a passenger cannot exceed 20 kilograms and must be no larger than 50 x 40 x 20 centimeters, roughly the size of a standard carry-on luggage.
 Portable shopping carts of up to 40L are also permitted.
 In addition, some buses on routes that pass Busan Station and Gimhae International Airport will feature stowing space for riders' bags.

Children
 Up to three children under the age of 5 can ride with one adult guardian.
 Children 12 years old and under can ride for free. However, children between 5 and 12 must board with a special transportation card. Those without the special transportation card must pay a discounted fare.

Fares
 Passengers who wish to benefit from a discounted fare must provide a valid ID or certificate proving their age or identity when requested by a transport worker.
 When paying a fare with cash denominations of 5,000 won or higher, change may be delivered via bank transfer after completing a confirmation form.

Food and drink
 New food and drink regulations will be enforced starting Jan. 1, 2024.
 Only food or liquids in completely sealed or re-sealable containers will be permitted on board. In practice this means that beverages in take-out cups, opened cans, or fitted with a straw will be prohibited.
 Food or beverage simply carried for transport will be permitted. Produce, meat and other ingredients must be properly contained. Take-out food, such as chicken or pizza, that is properly packaged will be permissible.

Animals
 In general, animals that may disturb other passengers are prohibited, however, service animals are surely permitted on board.
 Pets must be completely covered and stowed in a dedicated carrier.
