The city of Busan will host the "Busan International Conference on Smart Maritime City" at 10 a.m. on Oct. 17 at the Park Hyatt Busan in Haeundae-gu district.

The conference is organized to establish a strategy for Busan to become a leading city in the smart maritime city industry and to foster international cooperation to realize the concept of a sustainable floating city, Oceanix Busan, in the new era of the global climate crisis.

Oceanix Busan is the world's first prototype floating city project, a collaboration between UN-Habitat, Busan Metropolitan City, and OCEANIX, a blue tech company based in New York. The project aims to provide breakthrough technology for coastal cities facing severe land shortages that are compounded by climatic threats.

The conference will be attended by approximately 150 people, including Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon, and officials from UN-Habitat and Oceanix, and will feature an opening ceremony, keynote lectures, and expert discussions during various sessions.

The first session, with the theme "The Future We Are Creating Together: Global Partnership for the World's First Smart Floating City," will seek the best ways to realize a sustainable floating city. The second session will feature presentations and discussions on how to lead in the smart maritime city industry. The third session will provide insights from experts at UN-Habitat under the theme of "Busan's Leadership in Climate Resilience and a Sustainable Future." The conference will be live-streamed on YouTube for Korean and English-speaking audiences.
