On Oct. 5, Busan City held the 44th Citizens’ Day celebration at City Hall in Yeonje-gu district.

Around 700 citizens, including Mayor Park Heong-joon, gathered to participate in the festivities. The Busan Municipal Performing Art Company and the World Angel Peace Art Group gave special performances to the delight of those gathered. Furthermore, performers and citizens expressed their hope to host the World Expo 2030 Busan.

During the ceremony, Mayor Park presented citizenship awards to seven individuals. The grand prize was given to Lee Hee-suk, the owner of Original Kongnamulbap  (원조콩나물비빔밥), a restaurant in Jung-gu district. Ms. Lee has provided free meals to homeless people since 1992.

Mayor Park expressed his gratitude to Ms. Lee. He praised her generosity, stating, “Your dedication and efforts to make a better relationship with others are the core power to make the city of Busan a place where people want to live generation after generation.”

Along with the Citizens’ Day celebrations, the city commemorated the 431st anniversary of Admiral Yi Sun Shin’s victory against Japanese invaders during the 1592 Battle of Busan. Ahead of the ceremony, Mayor Park and thirty local officials visited the Chungryeolsa Shirine in Dongnae-gu district to honor deceased patriots.
