Global perspectives on Busan's Expo bid from the 2023 K-ICT Week

20230906 2023 K-ICT WEEK In BUSAN 개막식(벡스코) 08

The 2023 K-ICT Week kicked off on Sept. 6 at BEXCO in Haeundae-gu district.

Korea’s representative ICT event is scheduled to conclude on Sept. 8 and is expected to host some 267 ICT companies from home and abroad, including Megazone Cloud, Duozone Bizon, Etevers, Schaffengott, Microsoft and AWS.

Under the theme of “AI for the Future and Digital Transformation,” conferences and forums will give people a deeper insight into the fourth industrial revolution and how upcoming ICT will transform our lives. Several side events will bring industry professionals together, allowing participants to discuss avenues for growth and expand their businesses.

Daily Busan met Ms. Khamhoung, Ms. Keomahavong and Mr. Wong from the mining company MMG in Laos and Mr. Chang from The Federation of Hong Kong Industries.

Q: What did you generally discuss during the counseling today?

Mr. Wong: Start from the objective itself. We have been very much exposed to technology and innovation in various parts of the world. But we never had interaction with Korean companies. Korea is one of the fastest-growing countries. So this is the first time that our local company approached Korean innovation and technology. We hope that in the future, we can reach what you have here in Korea.

Mr. Chang: Actually, we are looking for products that we can sell in the Hong Kong and China area. I'm currently interested in technologies like hardware and software that can be sold back home.

Q. As you may know, Busan is currently making efforts to host the World Expo 2030. In your view, do you think Busan can successfully host the World Expo?

Ms. Keomahavong: I think yes. Busan has all the facilities like foods and also care for foreigners and it's easy to travel. I think all the places accept credit cards so people don't have to carry all the cash. I think Busan has nice weather too.

Ms. Khamhoung: You can do it. Because I believe Busan is a nice place not just for traveling but for joining the World Expo. It would be possible. It's gonna be good for people to come and see. I think you have the capability to do it with all the facilities.

Mr. Wong: I'm sure it will be very successful. I'm very very confident they can be very very successful because the event is seven years away from now. And Busan has already started to prepare. As you know, the World Expo is more famous than the Olympics, so I think people are starting to get ready, so it's a very smart move.

Mr. Chang: I don't see why not. It's a nice city, and I think the infrastructures are pretty well-built. I think the traveling time in Asia shouldn't be inconvenient for Asian countries to come over here. Overseas as well. So traveling to Busan shouldn't be a problem.

Ms. Keomahavong: I think restaurants should put more pictures. It's also important for foreigners.
