The Busan World Disability Conference 2023 will occur from Aug. 7 to 11 at BEXCO in Haeundae-gu district. The event, centered around the theme "Global Transformational Agenda: Current Challenges and Opportunities," is expected to welcome an impressive gathering of 2,000 participants from 80 countries worldwide.

During the conference, various stakeholders will discuss improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities. Policymakers, NGOs and other leaders will discuss human rights issues for persons with disabilities, such as inclusive education and employment, social and community inclusion, healthcare, design, and access to and use of digital technology. Other topics to be covered include migrants with disabilities and the history of women and  girls with disabilities.

In addition, public and private organizations will showcase the latest disability technologies and assistive devices. The organizations include the National Rehabilitation Center, Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities and SK Telecom. Various programs, such as the Disability Media Art Show, International Disabled People's Human Rights Film Festival, Disabled Challenge Drone Soccer Tournament and a Drone Experience Zone will be featured during the week.

One groundbreaking aspect of the conference is its embrace of the metaverse. Certain sessions, exhibitions, and events will be displayed in an immersive virtual space, allowing participants to transcend their physical limitations and engage as avatars.
