Deullak Nallak, meaning "In and Out," are vibrant cultural hubs scattered across the city where families can enjoy a variety of enriching experiences. Part library, part play space, Deullak Nallak offers books, reading areas, cultural events, educational activities and media art installations.
The first Deullak Nallak opened on the first floor of Busan City Hall in September 2022. As of March 2024, 47 centers are open, and another 31 are under construction. The centers are generally located in public institutions, such as cultural complexes, libraries or community buildings. In conjunction with Busan's "15-minute city" campaign, the goal is to establish 200 spaces by 2026 so that citizens in any neighborhood can access a facility.
Each Deullak Nallak is tailored to fit the needs and characteristics of the neighborhood in which it is located. However, most centers are outfitted with different "zones" to entertain people of all ages.
Engaging videos and music capture children's attention in the media display zone. In the digital experience zone, people can explore and interact with cutting-edge technology. Visitors can see their scanned drawings come to life on a big screen or dance and play games with the help of motion capture and augmented reality technology. In addition, four-dimensional videos teach valuable lessons on disaster preparedness, such as safely escaping disasters like earthquakes or fires.
The study zone makes learning fun with content provided by Korea Educational Broadcasting System, EBS. Moreover, kids can learn on devices like tablet PCs and interactive boards. Robots are on hand to read books or provide coding lessons, while AR technology transforms characters and settings from books into captivating three-dimensional forms.
Finally, the fun never ends in the play zone. Kids can let loose on playground equipment or focus their energy on Lego blocks and board games.
