Celebrate Christmas with ‘The Nutcracker’

“The Nutcracker” will pirouette into Busan to help citizens experience Christmas joy. The holiday classic will play on Dec. 22 and 23 at BEXCO Auditorium in Haeundae-gu district.
Sofia City Ballet, featuring the finest dancers in Bulgaria, will grace the stage. This is the dance troupe’s second time in Korea; they performed “Swan Lake” at the Sejong Center in April 2014.
“The Nutcracker,” a timeless ballet masterpiece by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, is a beloved mainstay of the Christmas season. It tells the story of a young child named Clara, who has a thrilling adventure on Christmas Eve. Join Clara and the enchanted Nutcracker as they fight the Mouse King and visit the Kingdom of Sweets. The show combines Tchaikovsky’s brilliant score, spectacular dancing and fairy tale magic with the wonder of Christmas.
While the story's basic outline is the same, the content and presentation may vary based on the choreographer’s vision. The Busan performance will be particularly special as it features the enchanting “Waltz of the Snowflakes,” with 20 dancing snowflake fairies leaping and twirling across the stage. In addition, the “Waltz of Flowers” will showcase folk dances from various countries.
The performance will be presented three times, at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 and 2 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 23.
Individuals who took this year’s College Scholastic Ability Test (수능) or have been accepted into college or university will receive 40% off R, S, and A seats or 20% off VIP seats. Proof of eligibility is required, such as with a test verification slip or school acceptance letter. Also, residents’ discounts and other promotions will be offered until Nov. 27.
