Cirque du Soleil, the famed circus troupe, brings its wonder and spectacle to Busan. “Luzia: A Waking Dream of Mexico” will take place at the Big Top next to Shinsegae Centum City until Feb. 4. This is Cirque’s first show in Busan since performing in Seoul in 2007.

The 19-meter tall and 51-meter wide Big Top, a circus tent created for the performance, can accommodate up to 2,400 audience members per show. The performance is 100 minutes long, excluding a 25-minute intermission. Ticket prices range from 70,000 won to 290,000 won and are available on Interpark, Naver and others. A family with three or more members will get a 10 percent discounted price with supporting documents or identification.

Inspired by the richness of Mexican culture, “Luzia” takes audiences on a surreal escape to an imaginary Mexico, a sumptuously vibrant world suspended between dreams and reality. Audiences will travel the dreamlike land guided by light (“luz” in Spanish) and rain (“lluvia”). A notable aspect of the show is the artificial rain that drenches the center stage.

Performers of the show said, “We are happy to perform in Busan, the city of the ocean,” and “We hope you can escape from the real world and dive into the world of ‘Luzia,’ enjoying the amazing factors which we are providing during the show time.”

“Luzia” premiered in April 2016 and is Cirque’s 38th original production. The animal-free “Sun Circus” began in 1984 on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. The critically acclaimed entertainment group is well-known for the breathtaking visuals, soaring spectacles and human ingenuity displayed in each production.

Cirque has performed seven shows in Korea, including “Quidam,” “Alegria,” “Varekai,” and “Kooza,” attracting over a million audience members. The company is poised to continue presenting its family-friendly productions in Busan after the city and Mast Entertainment, Cirque du Soleil’s Korean partners, signed an agreement to present shows in Busan until 2030.
