2030 Expo Busan Travel Course

　This past April, an inspection team from the Bureau International des Expositions visited Busan to evaluate its ability to host  the 2030 World Expo. After examining the city from end to end, BIE representatives were deeply impressed by what they saw.
　In response, the City of Busan and the Busan Tourism Organization created the "2030 Expo Busan Travel Course" based on the BIE delegation's itinerary. Two courses are available: The "Green Life Practice Course" and the "Sharing Memory Course." Each course highlights Busan's strengths as a potential Expo city: its past as a refugee sanctuary, its present as a model of harmonious coexistence with nature, and its future as a global leader in technology and culture.

 Green Life Practice Course

Families enjoy spending time at the North Port Waterside Park.

◎ North Port
　An overpass at Busan Station directly connects to the Waterfront Park at North Port, which is the designated venue for World Expo 2030 Busan. Once a bustling port and shipping center, it is being transformed into a sprawling, 180,000-square-meter waterside plaza.
　The area boasts an international passenger terminal and various leisure facilities and amenities catering to residents and tourists.
　While North Port is still under construction, phase one of the massive civil project is complete. Visitors can enjoy picnic areas, an open canal, a cascading waterway, and panoramic views of the Busanhangdaegyo Bridge and Yeongdo Island. Waterfront Park is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
　Next to the park is the Busan Port Healing Campground, which offers stunning night views of the  port and the big cruise ships anchored in the harbor. Despite the chilly night air, people of all ages set up tents to spend an evening under the stars. Reservations for the campground can be made through Interpark.

​The tidal flat at Gangseo Shinho Lake Park.

◎ Gangseo Shinho Lake Park
　Located in Gangseo-gu district on the west end of Busan, Shinho Lake Park is famous for its tidal flat. People enjoy catching clams and crabs as their feet squelch and sink into the soft mud. There are also plenty of walkways and a water playground to entice visitors of all ages.

◎ The Museum of Contemporary Art, Busan
　Eulsukdo Island, where nature and people coexist, is home to MoCA Busan, an expansive 6,000-square-meter museum dedicated to thought-provoking and experimental modern art.
　The museum's exterior is adorned with a collection of diverse plants, making it a work of art in itself. The Vertical Garden, by French botanist and artist Patrick Blanc, features over 175 plants, including 30 indigenous species, which change colors and shapes through the seasons.
　Inside, visitors can find five main exhibition spaces, a lecture room, a children's art section, a children's library and a cafeteria. MoCA showcases a wide array of installation art that incorporates elements like video, sound and light. Additionally, the museum offers various educational programs and engaging activities.

​Dadaepo Beach is renowned for its golden sunsets.

◎ Dadaepo Beach
　Dadaepo Beach, where the Nakdonggang River and the Korea Strait meet, is arguably the best of Busan's seven beaches. With soft sand, a bustling wetland, and a thick pine forest, Dadaepo offers natural wonders not often found in a city setting.
　Dadaepo also boasts amber sunrises, golden sunsets, and a charming "blue hour" that provide the perfect lighting for unforgettable pictures.
　Other attractions in the area include the Sunset Fountain of Dreams, the largest fountain in Korea, and the Gouni Eco Trail, a 600-meter-long walkway that gives the sensation of walking between the sky and the ocean.

◎ Songdo Beach
　Songdo Beach opened in 1913 as the nation's first public beach. Since then, the area has offered residents and visitors unrivaled leisure experiences.
　The Songdo Cloud Trails is the longest skywalk in the city. At 800-meters long, the trail leads walkers way out above the ocean.
　For a thrilling experience, hop on the Busan Air Cruise. The Air Cruise offers a 1.62-kilometer cable car ride from Songlim Park in the east and Amnam Park in the west. Admire the surrounding area from 86 meters above the ocean.

Sharing Memory Course

​The Symbolic Area at the UN Memorial Cemetery.

◎ U.N. Memorial Cemetery in Korea
　United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea, the world's only U.N. memorial cemetery, was constructed in Nam-gu district in January 1951 during the Korean War. While the cemetery originally held up to 11,000 graves, most of the fallen soldiers were repatriated at the request of their families. Currently, 2,300 graves house the remains of fallen soldiers from 11 countries, including the U.K., the U.S., Australia, France and Turkiye.
　The serene park spreads across a grassy plain area of 135,000 square meters. Some notable sites and memorials include Memorial Service Hall, Symbolic Area, the Wall of Remembrance, the U.N. Forces Memorial and the Unknown Soldier's Pathway.
　Visitors should note that the following attire is considered inappropriate for entering the cemetery: Athletic wear, overly revealing clothes and slippers.

The LED light show at the Busan Cinema Center.

◎ Busan Cinema Center
　Busan Cinema Center, a landmark of the cinematic city Busan, is a cultural complex and the main venue for the Busan International Film Festival. The center screens classic and independent movies, giving cinephiles the chance to catch non-mainstream cinema. Movie tickets cost 5,000 to 8,000 won.
　BCC also houses The Cinema Library, which contains nearly 40,000 film-related materials. The library also has an on-demand service for people to watch films screened during past BIFFs or other movie festivals. The archive is particularly valuable to movie lovers and film scholars.
　The complex is sheltered by two roofs whose outdoor ceilings are clad with computer-controlled LED elements. The largest of the roofs includes a column-free cantilever of 85 meters. The dynamic LED-lit surface covering the undulating ceilings of the outdoor roof canopies gives the BCC its iconographic shape. The LED light show starts at sunset and ends at 11 p.m.

​Gwangandaegyo Bridge adds sparkle to Busan's skyline, living up to its nickname, `Diamond Bridge.'

◎ Gwangalli Beach
　Thanks to the Gwangandaegyo Bridge shining brightly at night, Gwangalli Beach creates a romantic mood to enjoy a date with a loved one. The longest suspension bridge in Korea has become the landmark of the beach, giving beachgoers a unique view.
　Weekend nights at Gwangalli Beach have a festive air. Restaurants, cafes and bars line the area's main strip, offering fun times for people of all ages. Every Friday night through the end of November, there is a free outdoor movie screening.
　Additionally, the Gwangalli M Drone Light Show illuminates the dark sky every Saturday night. Look to the heavens as thousands of drones move in synchrony to dazzle audiences. Each show runs for roughly 10-minutes and features various thematic images or messages. Two shows are presented, at 7 and 9 p.m. from October to February, and at 8 and 10 p.m. from March to September.
