The 19th Busan International Dance Festival will take place at the Busan Cinema Center and Haeundae Beach from June 2 to 4. After shutting down because of COVID-19, the festival is back and better than ever. This year’s festival, organized under the theme of “Busan and the World become one through dance,” will present 60 performances by 40 troupes from 13 countries.

The 2023 BIDF is divided into six programs. The opening ceremony will be performed by Seoul Gyobang, a troupe that specializes in traditional Korean sword dance. During the opening gala, French dance company Herve Koubi will present a stunning performance of acrobatics, gymnastics, b-boying, modern dance and ballet called “What the Day Owes to the Night.” The quality and popularity of the show has already been demonstrated given their completely sold-out U.S. tour.

Two hundred artists from 13 countries, including France, Canada, the Argentine Republic, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Taiwan are featured as “invited performers.” These artists are sure to wow audiences with an eclectic mix of dancing that showcases a variety of excellent dance styles.

Young artists from the Peniel High School of The Arts, Busan High School of Arts, the Busan Youth Ballet Company and the winners of the Citizen Mobile Dance Competition will also perform.

Ahn Eun-Me Company’s “Man.Kyung.Chang.Pa,” which means “Thousands of Blue Waves,” will be performed for the closing ceremony.

Performances on the Haeundae Beach stage are free but the opening ceremony and gala show cost 10,000 won to 50,000 won. The Herve Koubi performance costs 10,000 won to 100,000 won.
