Keep Busan safe while walking your dog

The Busan Dog Petrol [sic], a community initiative where citizens and their dogs help maintain local safety, is recruiting participants until April 6.

Last year, dogs and their owners contributed to crime prevention by identifying hazards in residential areas, including incidents involving intoxicated individuals and damaged infrastructure.

Due to its success and growing public interest, the program is expanding this year to include Dong-gu, Saha-gu and Yeonje-gu districts, bringing the total to 250 patrol teams across 10 districts. Dog owners in these newly added areas can apply via the Dog Petrol website.

Applicants will undergo a two-stage selection process: An initial document screening followed by a practical evaluation, which assesses a dog’s responsiveness to commands and external stimuli.

Selected participants must walk their dogs at least twice a week while engaging in neighborhood crime prevention efforts. More information is available on the Dog Petrol website.
