Busan announces contests to name new children’s newspaper and reporter group
Busan Metropolitan City will debut a children’s newspaper in June 2025 and is inviting public participation to name both the newspaper and the children’s reporter group. The contests are open until Jan. 24.
The newspaper aims to encourage children to actively engage with their local communities to create deeper affection for the city by better understanding their neighborhoods.
Participants are encouraged to propose creative and memorable names that resonate with children.
For the newspaper, names should reflect regionality and educational value, while being kid-friendly and easy to remember.
For the young press group, suggested names should capture the role and spirit of news reporting while also conveying a sense of cheerfulness, vitality and creativity.
For both contests, the best names will spark children’s curiosity and encourage more active participation.
The contests are open to all Busan residents. Submissions can be made through the Busan City homepage, with each contestant allowed up to three entries. However, only one entry per person will be eligible for an award. A random drawing will determine the winner if multiple people suggest the same winning names.
Winners will receive the following prizes:
• Grand Prize (1 person): Onnuri Gift Certificate worth 500,000 won
• Excellence Award (2 people): Onnuri Gift Certificate worth 200,000 won
• Participation Award (50 people): Busan City Children's Newspaper souvenir
If a child wins a prize, it will be replaced with a gift certificate for cultural activities, and the winner will be prioritized to become the first young reporter.
Winners will be announced in February via the Busan City website and notified individually.
