Until Oct. 20, the Busan Biennale 2024 will be held at the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum, HANSUNG1918 and Choryang House.

This year’s theme, “Seeing in the Dark,” features art that engages with the metaphorical darkness many people navigate, as the mechanics of the world are often hidden from view. In contrast to the ideals of the European Enlightenment, where knowledge appears in the “light” of visibility, “Seeing in the Dark” asks audiences to consider darkness as a space of emancipation where a reimagination of the world may proceed.

Artistic Directors Vera Mey and Philippe Pirotte have brought together 62 artists from around the world to share their work. The exhibition will present work from Busan artists Bang Jeong Ah, Daejin Choi, Doowon Lee, Koo Hunjoo and Kyung Hwa Kim.

The Busan Biennale 2024 is part of the inaugural Korea Art Festival, which connects large-scale art events nationwide. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Art Festival offers special benefits to art fans, such as discounted or free admission to museums and galleries nationwide.

Visitors to the Busan Biennale and the Gwangju Biennale will receive 30% off when purchasing a joint ticket to both events.

In addition, the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) offers special travel packages for people traveling to the Busan Biennale from out of town via KTX.
