‘Fly Beyond,’ ASEAN film festival lands in Haeundae

Prominent, young Southeast Asian filmmakers will present their films in Busan for the first time. The Busan Film Commission, in collaboration with the KF ASEAN Culture House, presents "Fly Beyond: ASEAN to Korea" from July 30 to Aug. 4 at the KF ASEAN Culture House in Haeundae-gu District.

ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

"Fly Beyond" is a showcase of outstanding directors who participated in the ASEAN-R.O.K. Film Leaders Incubator: FLY, a filmmaking workshop funded by the ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Fund (AKCF).

Directors from seven ASEAN nations, including Vietnam, the Philippines, and Singapore, will present 15 movies under three themes: “Reconstructing Family,” “Strange Planet,” and “Dear Fantasy.”

The screening includes "Crazy Lotus," which won the Tiger Short Competition Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, and "Solids by the Seashore," which won the LG OLED New Currents Award at the Busan International Film Festival in 2023.

From July 30 to Aug. 1, Kim Young Woo, a film programmer for the Seoul Independent Film Festival, will host film commentary sessions before the screenings to enhance moviegoers' understanding of the films.
