The Busan Christmas Culture Festival begins on Dec. 8 at Gwangbok-ro in Nampo-dong. The annual winter festival, which features holiday lights, décor and a mega-sized Christmas tree, will continue until Jan. 14.

This year’s light displays are presented under the theme of “Shining Heritage 345” in honor of the Choryang Waegwan, an institution established in 1678 for diplomacy and trade with Japan. The building was located in the area of what is now Yongdusan Park.

The festival will showcase the past, present and future of Gwangbok-ro, once the cultural center of Busan. In the past, trams served as the main public transportation citywide until the late 1960s. “The Tram Which Leapt Through Time” (시간을 달리는 전차) is a dazzling display that elicits the nostalgia of tram-travel.

A structure titled “The Light Fountain of Gwangbok” is located at the entrance of Gwangbok-ro in honor of the Fountain Plaza, which will be installed in the area in 2025.

Finally, one of the festival’s highlights is the “Happy Kang Daniel Day” zone, a collaboration between the Jung-gu district office and the official fan club of the K-pop idol and entertainer who was born and raised in Busan. The spot is a must-visit for Kang Daniel fans.

The Busan Christmas Culture Festival offers a festive atmosphere and stunning backgrounds for taking pictures. It is a great place to spend time with loved ones this holiday season.
