Busan Metropolitan City has adopted a clever approach to showcase its enthusiasm for hosting the 2030 World Expo by launching a new survival program with broadcast network tvN. Starting on May 17, viewers can tune in to watch “Sci_Art Korea,” which pits 12 teams of students from the most prestigious universities in the country against each other.

The 12 teams are comprised of engineering and art students. As the show’s name implies, each team must prepare a collaborative performance related to three themes: “Sustainable living with nature,” “technology for humanity,” and “platform for caring and sharing.” The three concepts represent the sub-themes present in Busan’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo. The winning group will receive 30 million won and a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Bae Sung-jae, a television personality and broadcaster, hosts the show. Experts from the science and art industries, including music director Kolleen Park, choreographer and dancer Gabee, and cognitive neuroscientist and Hanyang University professor Dong-Seong Chang, will be mentors and judges.

In addition, Lee Kyung-ho, head of the secretariat for the Bid Committee for World Expo 2030 Busan, will appear as a guest judge.

“Sci_Art Korea” airs every Wednesday for three weeks at 7:10 p.m. on network tvN.
