Go Festival invites you to rediscover Busan’s historic downtown

From May 20 to 21, the city will host the Busan Go Festival in the Dong-gu and Yeongdo-gu districts. The annual festival is part of the city’s efforts to revitalize its historic city center by offering various experiences in the area’s hidden spots.

This year, visitors can enjoy distinct programs reflecting each neighborhood’s characteristics. The festival is organized around five main themes: “frightening,” “reading,” “feeling,” “meeting,” and “drinking.”

Dong-gu will host two of the themed events. For the “frightening” program, visitors can head to Jeungsan Park on May 20 and 21 from 5 to 10 p.m. to experience the creepy nighttime atmosphere. Various missions will be set up around the park to challenge participants. Electronic dance music will offset the scary atmosphere, providing the faint-hearted a chance to dance under the moonlight.

In addition, the “reading” program will be held at the Dong-gu Library on May 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. and features an author lecture and jazz performance. The rest of the events will be in Yeongdo-gu. A “Mini Rock Concert” will take place at Gamji Beach in Taejongdae on May 20 and 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. Concertgoers can “feel” the pebbles lining the coast while enjoying performances by local rock bands.

The “Harihang Sampler” will give participants the opportunity to “meet” and get to know life in a local fishing village. The event will occur at Hari Port on May 20 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Finally, festivalgoers can drink and relax at Bukbin Wharf from 4 to 10 p.m. on May 20 and 21. The wharf, in front of P.ARK cafe, is the perfect setting to savor some adult beverages against a sunset and nighttime view.

Seating for each event is limited, so interested individuals should make reservations through the Busan Culture & Tourism Festival Organizing Committee (bfo.or.kr). Admission fees are required for some programs. Onsite registration for each event will also be available, but participation is not guaranteed. For more detailed information, refer to the festival’s official website.
