Tourist signs win prestigious design award
The information signs come in four styles and feature different information or layout depending on their location.
The Red Dot Design Award, awarded annually since 1955, is recognized as one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world. The Germany-based organization recognizes excellence in three disciplines: Product Design, Brand and Communication Design, and Design Concept. This year, Busan will receive a Red Dot Award in Product Design for the tourist information signs located citywide.
The tourist signs, a joint effort between Busan Metropolitan City and Design Council Busan, have been praised for promoting inclusivity. The signs were created for locals, foreigners and people with disabilities. Each sign features four languages (Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese), color variations for people with visual impairments, and includes height adjustments in consideration of wheelchair users. Each sign also uses international standard pictograms and has QR codes that guide visitors to the city’s official travel website (visitbusan.net).
The Busan government and Design Council Busan are expected to be officially recognized at an awards ceremony in June 2023.
