World-class musicians entertain BIE envoys

K-Culture Night, which welcomed a delegation from BIE, took place on April 5 at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae District. The concert featured a performance by renowned Korean soprano Jo Sumi.

Busan held a star-studded concert on April 5 to entertain a delegation from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), an intergovernmental organization that oversees and regulates World Expos. The concert was part of the city’s efforts to show the BIE its ability and willingness to host the World Expo 2030.


The event, dubbed “K-Culture Night,” let the delegation experience Korea’s booming music culture and showcased the country as a cultural powerhouse. Held at the outdoor theater of the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu (district), the concert featured the country’s top K-pop acts and classical musicians.


The city rolled out the red carpet for the delegation, welcoming them with applause from 2,000 citizens. In addition, the envoys were honored with a handprint ceremony befitting the locale; the Cinema Center is the main venue for the Busan International Film Festival.


K-pop artists Oh My Girl and Rain kicked off the show with performances of their hit songs. Then, the widely acclaimed conductor Gum Nan-se led a performance by the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra The orchestra played music pieces from popular movies, such as "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Star Wars.” World-class soprano Jo Sumi capped off the night with her rendition of "We Will Be One," an official song dedicated to supporting Busan's bid to host the World Expo 2030.
