Vienna Boys' Choir 

 

During the first half of 2023, Busan Cultural Center will host 162 events and festivals, including 19 memorable plays, musicals, ballets, traditional performances and choir concerts. This bountiful list, spanning six venues, including Busan Cultural Center and Busan Citizen's Hall, is expected to be popular among art lovers and Busanites' desire for cultural content.

National and international

High-quality classics

The performances commenced Jan. 3 with the 2023 Busan Cultural Center Chamber Festival. The festival, at Medium Theater and Chamber Hall, runs graceful classics exemplifying the theme "Chamber music: to fill the Busan night" till Jan. 17. National and talented international artists are featured in this festival, including SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic and local universities' chamber teams.

The European traditional Vienna Boys' Choir follows with calming harmonies Jan. 29 at the Main Theater. Then, March 29 at the Main and Medium Theater, world competition winners are scheduled for a four-part series that includes performances by Bruce Liu, who won the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, violinist Yang In-mo and pianist Kim Dasol.

The 200-year-old historic Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, which was once conducted by Brahms, Lim Ji-young and Mun Taeguk, will highlight some classic pieces at the Busan Cultural Center's Main Theater April 22.

On April 27, winners of the Vienna guitar competition, Cassie Martin and Loanna Kazoglou, are slated to perform alongside Sun-woo Ye-kwon, the first Korean winner of Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Well-known Japanese pianist and composer Yuhki Kuramoto will play at Busan Cultural Center's Main Theater May 26.

Popular and artistic

Hot productions

Some of the hottest pieces, plays, musicals and ballets will be featured this year. The steady-seller play, "Love Letter," will be at the Medium Theater from Jan. 28 to 29. The center's Main Theater will host the over two decades old classic winter musical "42nd Street" from Feb. 3 to 5.

The Universal Ballet will perform the generation-crossing "Giselle" at the Busan Cultural Center's Main from April 7 to 8.

 

Family-friendly performances

Sarang Chae Theater at the Busan Cultural Center will host family-friendly shows. The lineup consists of "Snow White and the Magic Mirror" from March 16 to April 27, "Peter Pan and Captain Hook" from June 9 to July 23, "Peter and the Wolf" from Aug. 18 to Sept. 24 and more.

 

Touching stages for locals and artists

"The," a popular local performance group, will perform "Three Boys Returns" at Busan Citizen Hall's Small Theater from Feb. 10 to 11. The show, whose theme is "The second stage of life, new youth, heart beats again!" portrays three men, Sang-sun, Yeon-woo and Gi-cheon, showing life after retirement.
