Busan has opened two new runner support facilities, one at APEC Naru Park and another inside Geumnyeonsan Station, completing a network of five locations across the city.
The facilities give runners, cyclists and other fitness enthusiasts a convenient place to change, stow their belongings and freshen up before and after a workout, with on-site changing rooms and storage lockers.
The network launched in March with a facility at Dadaepo Beach. Additional sites followed in May at Busan Citizens Park and North Port Waterfront Park.
The Geumnyeonsan Station facility, on Busan Metro Line 2, is easy to reach by public transit. It puts runners close to popular courses along Gwangalli Beach and the trail-running paths of Geumnyeonsan Mountain. A special running event will take place Oct. 23 at Samik Beach Waterfront Park to celebrate the facility’s opening.
The APEC Naru Park facility serves those exercising along the riverside paths and pedestrian bridges of the Suyeonggang River.
The new sites open just ahead of two major running events.
The Run Busan Running Festival will take place around North Port Waterfront Park on Nov. 14, followed by the Busan Bridge Marathon on Dec. 6. The World Athletics-certified marathon will see runners cross three of the city’s bridges: Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Busanhangdaegyo Bridge and Namhangdaegyo Bridge.
