As the year draws to a close, Busan City will help residents wrap up 2025 on a positive note by increasing the cashback benefits of Dongbaek Jeon, the city’s local currency. 

From November through December, users can receive 13% cashback on purchases of up to 500,000 won, up from the previous limit of 300,000 won. The initiative aims to stimulate the local economy by encouraging residents to shop more at neighborhood businesses.

In line with the Korea Grand Festival, a 12-day, government-led event offering nationwide discounts across multiple sectors, the cashback rate for Dongbaek Jeon will temporarily increase to 18% from Oct. 29 to Nov. 9. During this period, the special spending cap of 500,000 won will also be applied, giving users more room to enjoy the benefits. 

For example, spending 500,000 won during the Korea Grand Festival earns 90,000 won in Dongbaek Jeon points at the generous 18% rate. After the festival, the limit resets, and users can continue to enjoy 13% cashback on another 500,000 won of purchases through the end of November, adding up to a total benefit of 155,000 won when spending 1 million won or more during the month. 

Dongbaek Jeon can be used not only at local brick-and-mortar stores, but also on mobile platforms such as Danggyo, a public food delivery app, and Dongbaek Taxi, a local ride-hailing service. The same cashback benefits also apply to Dongbaek Mall, an online marketplace featuring regional specialties from across Korea.
